Track Your Spending by Chatting With Claude or ChatGPT
Updated · 5 min read
SpendFlow can connect to AI chat apps such as Claude and ChatGPT. Once connected, you can say “add 50 for coffee” or “how much did I spend on food this month?” and the assistant works with your real SpendFlow data.
What the assistant can do
- Add expenses and income, and edit or delete a transaction.
- List your categories, accounts and recent transactions.
- Check budget progress and your net worth across accounts.
- Summarise a period, show top spending and category breakdowns, and compare spending trends.
Connect it
- In SpendFlow, open Settings → AI Chat (Claude / ChatGPT) and copy the connector address.
- In Claude or ChatGPT, add it as a custom connector.
- Your browser opens a SpendFlow approval page. Check the app name and tap Approve.
- Go back to the chat and start asking.
You approve access yourself in SpendFlow; you never paste a password or key into the chat app.
Prompts to try
- Add 12.50 for lunch, category Food.
- What were my top five spending categories this month?
- Am I over budget anywhere?
- Show my spending trend for the last three months.
- Delete my last transaction.
Tip: Ask the assistant to list your categories first if it picks the wrong one. It matches names loosely, so using the exact name gives the best result.
Staying in control
Every connection is tied to your account and limited to your own data. You can see connected apps and revoke any of them in Settings at any time, and access also expires on its own, after which you simply approve again. Writes are rate limited to protect your data from runaway loops.
